Last weekend, Portland College hosted their very own all-inclusive dance festival at Kirkby Festival Hall. The festival showcased over 360 performances and an additional 300 members of the public came along to enjoy the event.
Our learners had the opportunity to promote and host the event as part of real life work experience. They developed and explored British Values, as well as their social, spiritual, moral and cultural skills through tasks such as socialising with members of the public, and co-operating with staff and their peers. The learners explored how communities function within different environments, celebrating diversity through music and dance styles, respecting different faiths, and appreciating the viewpoints of others.
Our learners were able to assist with the tuck shop, meeting and greeting on the door, selling tickets, being a judge for the event, and also working as part of the hospitality and catering team, providing hot food and drinks throughout the event.
The festival raised an incredible approximate total of £2,885.00 which will go directly towards purchasing inclusive educational equipment for our learners.
A huge thank you goes out to all the staff and learners involved, in the run up to and during the event itself – what a fantastic success and celebration of equality, diversity and inclusion!
