Trade Learners Volunteer at Church

Trade Learners Volunteer at Church

A group of learners on the Trade programme have been working with Volunteer It Yourself (VIY) by volunteering to do painting and decorating at Warsop Methodist Church. VIY are an organisation who support young people to access live work opportunities in trades and support them to develop their employability skills.

They arrived and were met by the contractors who introduced themselves and discussed safety and working on site. They then demonstrated to the learners what they needed to do and were given the tasks of preparing the walls for painting, filling and sanding and then painting the walls with a roller and a brush.

The learners were a credit to themselves and the College, learning new work skills and demonstrating employability skills such as team work, resilience and communication.

At the end of the day, the contractors got the learners together and told them what an amazing job they had done, completing much more than had been expected!

They will be attending again next week to finish the job but also to be assessed for a City and Guilds qualification in painting and decorating.
