After much planning and preparation, Portland Pathways hosted an official launch event yesterday following the scheme’s successful pilot phase. The event, which was held at the Hub in Mansfield City Centre, brought together many local business partners and organisations, including the Citizens Advice Bureau, local job centres, Nottinghamshire County Council, The Chad newspaper, and Mansfield 103 radio station.
Attendees were presented to by Principal Dr. Mark Dale, who described the ambitions of the Portland Pathways scheme and its aim to support the growing challenge of the disability employment gap.
Hannah Harvey, who was one of the first clients to access the services of Portland Pathways, also attended as a special guest. Hannah was lacking in confidence and didn’t know which direction to take in terms of her career. Employment Engagement Advisor Cheryl Levers worked with Hannah to help her to identity teaching as a potential career path, which has resulted in Hannah successfully gaining a position as a Teaching Assistant at Garibaldi, where she will be working with six students.
Thanks were given to Team Knowhow, who very kindly gifted six IPads to learners of Portland College.
