Learners got to take a peek into the future of assistive technology this term, as Care Coordinator Cory Hatton brought an interactive robot named Temi into the classroom.

The session began with a discussion about the wide range of robots used in everyday life, exploring how they can support people in tasks from communication to mobility. Learners were then introduced to Temi, a personal robot designed to promote independence, particularly for individuals who may need additional support.

Cory demonstrated Temi’s capabilities, showing how it can follow a person, respond to questions, open apps or videos, and navigate to specific locations. Learners were invited to take part in the demonstration using activity cards, which allowed them to instruct the robot to carry out different actions.

To ensure all learners could engage, talking tiles were also used, enabling those with limited verbal communication to interact with Temi and participate fully in the activities.

The session concluded with a lively Q&A segment, where learners shared their thoughts and curiosity about robotics and its potential. The visit offered an engaging and practical insight into how technology like Temi could play a role in supporting independence in the future.
