Portland Learners Shine at AoC PAN Disability Football Festival

Portland football team line up with staff who supported them.

On Thursday 11 June, ten Portland learners proudly represented the college at the AoC National PAN Disability Football Festival, held at the iconic St George’s Park, the home of England’s national football teams.

The festival brought together 24 colleges and specialist colleges from across the country, with teams initially competing in groups of four. Portland faced Heart of Birmingham Vocational College, Nottingham College, and Havant and South Downs College in the opening stage.

Portland made an excellent start to the day with a convincing 3–0 victory over Havant and South Downs College, thanks to goals fromDelking Collins-Bunting, Ryan Coalwood, and Reagan Norris. The team then followed up with two hard-fought 0–0 draws, dominating possession and creating numerous opportunities in both matches.

These results saw Portland progress to the second phase of the festival, where they were grouped with Weston College, Blackburn College, and Heart of Birmingham Vocational College once again.

The team continued their impressive form, winning all three matches with scores of 1–0, 1–0, and 3–0. Remarkably, Reagan Norris scored every goal in this phase, helping Portland maintain an unbeaten record throughout the entire event.

Despite not losing a single game and not conceding a goal all day, Portland were unable to be crowned overall winners as the event was organised as a festival rather than a competitive tournament. While this was understandably disappointing for the players, it did nothing to diminish an outstanding performance from the team.

Most importantly, every Portland learner represented themselves and the college with pride and professionalism. Throughout the day they demonstrated excellent football ability, outstanding teamwork, and exemplary sportsmanship. Their positive attitudes, respect for officials and opposition teams, and enjoyment of the occasion were evident in every match.

Congratulations to all involved on a fantastic day and an outstanding representation of Portland College.
