On Thursday 5th February, Portland College were the proud hosts of the Nottinghamshire regional Table Cricket Finals, a prestigious event supported by the Lords Taverners.
Portland College has a long history in relation to Table Cricket and were National Champions on three separate occasions between 2005 – 2012.
Not only was competition back at the college, but more importantly our learners had the opportunity to develop and work on new skills and to play as a team in a competitive environment. The Portland Team were joined by teams from Bracken Hill, Fountaindale, Beech Academy, Rose Hill, Ash Lea and Foxwood Academy.

The competition was very tough on the day, the actual game has only been introduced to our current learners since the start of the new term and so they were always going to be up against it playing against more settled and experienced teams. In the end it was Beech Academy who won the competition and will now go onto represent Nottinghamshire at the Finals Day at Lords, London.
Curriculum Manager, Dave Winter comments: “I wanted to say a massive well done to all the Portland College players and staff for their efforts. Our players showed great resilience but more importantly sportsmanship and respect to their peers.”

Special mention must also go to learner Reagan who was asked to support the Nottinghamshire Cricket team staff to help and officiate the matches. Reagan did a fantastic job and received wonderful feedback from the lead coach.

Also a big thanks to our media learners who photographed the event after the media team from Trent Bridge became unavailable, they did a brilliant job and the photos are wonderful.
