Payroll Manager

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Payroll Manager to join our small Payroll team here at Portland Charity. If you thrive in a varied and fast paced environment; have high standards of accuracy and attention to detail; and you feel passionate about providing an outstanding level of service for staff, we would love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
The successful candidate will join a small Payroll Team within the Finance department here at Portland College (Main Campus). Some of the main responsibilities of the role include:
- Being responsible for full end to end payroll for staff here at Portland Charity as well as our two small subsidiaries.
- Collating and maintaining all information relating to payroll in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Providing monthly reports to HMRC and being responsible for important tax documentation.
- Responding to pay queries from staff in a prompt and professional manner.
- Accurately calculating payments and deductions for all staff.
- Carrying out Pension calculations, reports and submissions.
- Producing reports such as end of Financial Year Payroll reports.
- To liaise effectively with the People Team and other departments within the college, as required.
- To meet important payroll deadlines to ensure a smooth payroll service to our staff across the charity.
About you
We’d love to hear from you if:
- You have a strong knowledge of UK payroll process, tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- You have a detailed understanding of statutory deductions such as income tax, pension contributions, and National Insurance etc.
- You can work well independently as well as collaborating within team.
- You can confidently manage your own workload whilst effectively meeting deadlines.
- You have a Level 5 recognised UK payroll qualification or a level of experience that would be considered an equivalent.
- You have high standards of work and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- You have the ability to solve problems and respond to pay related queries efficiently.
We will be required to carry out a Basic DBS check for this role which does not involve regulated activity with our learners and/or citizens.

Qualifications needed
Essential
- Level 2 in Maths and English
- Level 5 recognised UK payroll qualification or qualified through experience
Working Hours
37.5 hours, Monday to Friday – hours can be flexible, but must cover our core hours: 10:00am – 4:00pm. There is an opportunity for one day a week working from home following the successful completion of the probationary period.
