On Monday 2nd February there was a showing at the Leicester Curve of ‘Airship’- a new performance piece for PMLD children by Bamboozle Theatre. This performance was incredibly special as the story is based on the book ‘Eye of the Storm’, a short story that was written by ex-learner and Portland community member, Amy Mayo.
Amy’s journey with Bamboozle Theatre has been lifelong and she wrote the book to help raise money for the theatre company’s 30th anniversary. Those of you who remember Amy will know that she has cerebral palsy and communicates through blinking which is how she wrote the story. Bamboozle explain: “Using her blinks as Yes and No she had chosen every word with great precision and the result is a richly described short story”.
We are incredibly proud of Amy – her achievements reminds us to never underestimate someone because of their disability and she inspires us to challenge what we believe is possible. You can find out more about Amy’s Bamboozle journey (and buy her book!) here: The Eye of the Storm – Bamboozle Theatre.
Airship will be touring schools and venues in 2027.
