Developing Independence – Inspiring Futures

Inspiring Futures can support young people aged 18 to 21 who are not currently in education, employment or training (NEET) to build their confidence, develop new skills and gain valuable experience.

The programme is designed to help you explore your options, identify your goals and take positive steps towards your future. Whether you’re thinking about getting into work, returning to learning, developing new skills or exploring other opportunities, Inspiring Futures can help you move forward at your own pace.

Through Inspiring Futures, you’ll have the opportunity to develop practical skills, gain experience and build your confidence, while exploring different pathways that could help you achieve your goals. We can support you to recognise your strengths and interests, understand the opportunities available to you and identify the next steps that are right for you.

Portland Pathways is one of a number of providers delivering Inspiring Futures as part of the Government’s Youth Guarantee Trailblazer initiative through the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).

Case Study – Sam Charlton

Sam is a previous Inspiring Futures learner who joined the programme after graduating from Portland College and completing a supported internship.

As part of the programme, he enthusiastically took part in employability studies which included CV writing, interview skills, employer engagement and wider experiences to improve his confidence and mental health

Sam visited a number of work places such as Linneys and Sherwood observatory. As a result, Sam has now signed up for weekly archery sessions with the Woodland Adventure Zone and is continuing in his passion to write a book for his own enjoyment.

After successfully completing the Inspiring Futures programme Sam has now secured a part time paid position in a local company and is absolutely loving the role and the independence that it’s giving him.
