The Governing body comprises at least 10 volunteer charity trustees drawn from a range of backgrounds and experience.

The Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the College and its overall functioning.

The Board is a team with a broad blend of skills. It meets six times per year to consider strategic developments and systematic monitoring of College performance.

Tim Richmond OBE TD DL FCA CCMI (Hon) DBA


Tim is a Chartered Accountant, and acts as a private consultant in business strategy and direction. He has a number of roles in the private, public and voluntary sectors, including locally as Chairman of Futures. He is the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

Jim Aleander

Vice Chair and Learner Voice Lead

Jim is a former Principal of colleges in the Further Education sector, including West Notts College. He now runs his own consultancy business and is National Lead for Governance at the Association of Colleges.

Alan Earnshaw

Audit Committee Chair

Alan is former Vice Chairman of the College and has worked as a Director of several companies in England and overseas.

Thal Vasishta

Non executive director of Steps to Employment Ltd

Thalej is a solicitor and the founder and CEO of Paragon Law. Thalej works primarily with UK companies wishing to employ skilled foreign nationals and overseas companies and individuals seeking to invest in or trade with the UK.

Dean Fathers

Dean is the Chair of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. He is also the Chair of United Lincolnshire Healthcare Trust, and Visiting Professor at Leeds Business Schools.

Harvinder Atwal

Chair of Portland College Enterprises Ltd

Harvinder is the Managing Director of bksb Limited, a Vision West Notts College subsidiary company. The market leader for on-line skills assessment and development.

Nick Aspley


Nick is a partner with a local firm of solicitors having worked in family law for nearly 25 years including child protection cases and sits on the national family law committee of the Law Society.

Shaun Walsh

Chair of Oversight of Finance Group

Shaun is a former PWC Chartered Accountant and a Finance Director. As Managing Partner of Business Growth Services he leads a team which helps business owners accelerate the growth of their business.

Dr. Dawn Green

Safeguarding Lead and Chair of the Staff Council

Dawn was previously Principal & CEO at Landmarks College and Vice Principal at Portland College. She is now the Karten Network Manager and also provides consultancy services in whole College/School improvement and behaviour support.

Peter Emerson

Peter retired as Commercial Director of Severfield PLC and Chief Operating Officer of Watson Steel in 2013. He now works as a consultant in the Construction industry and for Laing O’Rourke Ltd.

Amanda Farr

Amanda Farr is a mental health specialist responsible for community mental health services across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. A visiting lecturer at the University of Oxford. She has significant voluntary sector expertise. Past High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire (2017-18) and current Deputy Lieutenant.

Karen Hall

Karen Hall is the national programme lead for Remploy, delivering the Care Quality Commission’s Experts by Experience programme.

Sarah Egley

Sarah Egley is the Head of Quality Governance for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust.

David Sneath

David Sneath is a recently retired senior employment tribunal judge. He has extensive Reserve Army experience at the rank of Colonel. A past High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire (2010-11) and a current Deputy Lieutenant.
