Principal's Welcome

Thank you for visiting the Portland College website. I hope you will discover many things of interest here and useful information if you are thinking about studying at Portland, applying for a job with us or supporting our work in other ways. In these pages you will find details of how Portland College’s highly adaptive environment removes many of the barriers that disabled people face. Our superb facilities free up learners to concentrate on their key goals such as gaining employment, moving towards independent living or progressing to further study. Every learner has a personalised programme, supported and guided by our friendly expert staff. For many learners the residential dimension offers the chance to form lifelong friendships, try out new activities and have lots of fun. It is a real privilege to lead this wonderful college with its vibrant community of learners, staff and supporters. I was appointed Principal in autumn 2006, but I have supported the work of the College for nearly ten years in my previous job as Associate Professor of Education at the University of Nottingham. Portland is a special place, come and see for yourself. Dr Mark Dale |
