Matthew had a golden Summer

Matthew is a 2nd year learner who is currently studying BTEC Sport here at the College. During the Summer he was selected by GB to take part in a training camp ahead of the world championships being held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Matthew’s sport is race running, for this he uses a 3 wheeled bike but instead of using pedals he uses his legs to generate power and speed. Matthew had worked very hard to get the sponsorship required and had put in a phenomenal amount of effort with training, he has been supported in this process by LSA Sam Crowther and his parents. Matthew trained most nights as well as attending the EIS every Wednesday evening in Sheffield.

While in Copenhagen Matthew won a gold medal in the 200 meters! On his return to college Matthew was straight back into training as he was competing in the CP Sport National Athletics Championships, he came away with gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 800m and 1500m. Finally, he finished the event by winning a trophy for being the best male track athlete for his age group throughout the track season.

If all that wasn’t enough, Matthew received a letter informing him that he has been selected as the Derbyshire Disabled Sportsperson of the year for 2017!!
