Portland College celebrates World Book Day
Last Thursday, 4th March 2010, marked World Book Day presenting a great opportunity for Portland College to get learners involved and immersed in reading and the world of literature.
Throughout the day, there were a wide range of activities organised based around books and learning through reading. This included students researching their favourite authors, creation of a music book with pictures within the Art Zone, members of staff doing readings of popular books, and games based around words and letters.
Students also enjoyed a Mad Hatters Tea Party, with one tutor group basing their activities around Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. This included all learners and teaching staff dressing up as their favourite characters from the book.
The event was successfully received with the majority of learners becoming involved in the various aspects of the celebration. The day also coincided with the launch of a new range of Talking Books within the College library.
