Portland College celebrate coveted captains award
Portland College student Amy Boler received the very first Lord’s Taverners Captain’s Award, which recognises youngsters who have demonstrated outstanding examples of leadership, teamwork, motivation, inspiration and fair play.
The gala evening, which was hosted at the Hilton on Park Lane, had 17 former captains in attendance including Brian Close, Ted Dexter, Tony Greig, Tony Lewis, Geoffrey Boycott, Mike Gatting, Bob Willis, Alec Stewart and Michael Atherton.
Tom Graveney and Mark Butcher, the oldest and youngest former Captain’s in attendance, presented the inaugural Captain’s Award to Amy Boler, Captain of the Portland College Table Cricket team who triumphed in the Lord’s Taverners Table Cricket competition at Lord’s earlier this year.
Dave Winter, Sport Co-ordinator for Portland College, said “Amy truly deserved this award and has been a fantastic captain for the team; I have every confidence that she can do it again this year and inspire Portland to their 3rd National title in a row”.
The Lord’s Taverners believe that sport has an important role to play in the development of young people learning these skills and attributes so important to their self esteem, health, education and future socio-economic potential. The charity looks to address this by providing increased access for disadvantaged youngsters through improved facilities.
