International recognition for one of Portland’s sporting stars

International recognition for one of Portland’s sporting stars

Portland College student and promising goalkeeper Curtis Shelton has this week received fantastic news as he was called up to the England CP (Cerebral Palsy) Football Team for the first time.

Curtis (17), a second year student at the College, was invited to trials at South Nottinghamshire College in June and impressed the management team enough to earn his first call up. He was already on the radar of the England team after being invited to train with the squad at the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall last year when he was just 16.

Portland College’s Sports Co-ordinator Dave Winter said of the achievement, “This is fantastic news for Curtis and reflects how hard he has worked in developing as a footballer and as a young man. He was part of our College team who went undefeated last year and is also a part of Notts County’s disability squad, so the England call up is fully deserved and a fantastic opportunity for him to develop further.”

Curtis will now attend training with the national squad each month including further training camps down at Lilleshall as well as continuing his studies at the College.
