Donation helps students get on their bike

Students at Portland College will soon be ‘getting on their bike’ thanks to a £2,000 donation from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation which will go towards a specialist movement therapy bike.

The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has donated £2,000 to the College to assist in buying a MOTOmed Bike – a specialist movement therapy machine which is used by students during their physiotherapy sessions.

Sharon Evans, Customer Representative at the Yorkshire’s Nottingham branch on Milton Street arranged the donation after hearing about our fantastic work with young people.

Sharon said: “I’m delighted the Yorkshire’s Charitable Foundation has donated £2,000 to help buy a new exercise bike for the students at Portland College.  The College provides a depth of opportunity for young people who have disabilities and encourages them to find their independence and join the world of work.

“I hope the new exercise bike is popular and helps students with their physiotherapy – I’m looking forward to joining them in generating some pedal power!”

Paula Manning, our Physiotherapy & Hydrotherapy Manager said: “We are very grateful to Yorkshire Building Society’s Charitable Foundation for its generous donation. The MOTOmed system helps students maintain flexibility, counteract consequences of lack of movement, build up muscles and strengthen independence and is one of our most popular machines within the Physio department.”
