Portland College achieve ‘Excellent’ Care Quality Commission Inspection Grade

Portland College, the national residential specialist college for people with disabilities, based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, was recently the subject of an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC regulate health and adult social care services in England, for services provided by the NHS, local authorities, private companies or voluntary organisations.

There are eight areas of the national standards of which the College has scored excellent in every area, therefore retaining our 3 star ‘excellent’ overall rating. The College was highly commended on all the major developments which have been undertaken in the three years since their last inspection including major investment in redevelopment and refurbishment of accommodation areas.

Mark Dale, Principal and CEO at Portland College said of the findings, “The Care Department is in the frontline of this inspection and staff on the day gave an excellent presentation of our work. This is a whole college achievement however, and individual care plans are built on close co-operation with learning and teaching staff, therapies and nursing. The whole campus environment is managed and delivered by our estates and domestic teams. Learners enjoy excellent delivery of catering week in week out and we are all supported by the teams in corporate services including finance, human resources, marketing and events.

We are delighted with the outcome of this inspection as we continue to develop our service provision for disabled people.”
