What are Friends for?
Everybody needs Friends! The aim of our Friends of Portland Scheme is to build and grow support for the work of Portland College at both national and local level.
What do Friends of Portland do?
Being a Friend of Portland means you will be:
- Our Ambassadors – to communicate with others about Portland
- Our Voice – to add your voice to lobbying activities in support of Portland College and/or disability rights
- Our Inspiration – to share relevant views, ideas and experiences with the College and other Friends
- Our Eyes – to share in our vision and contribute to the shape of our College in the future
- Our Helpers – to provide practical help in the classrooms and in the workplace e.g. with fundraising (optional)
- Our Experience – to help us to work on topical issues by sharing your own experiences
- Our Team – to work with us as a volunteer (optional)
What does the College do for Friends of Portland?
- We keep Friends informed of relevant news and developments
- We represent the voice of the Friends of Portland to local and central government
- We listen to your views and ideas
Why Join?
In return for joining you will:
- Be kept up to date with what is happening at the College by receiving an annual newsletter and regular electronic updates
- Receive email alerts to Portland news flashes
- Have the opportunity to be included in consultation events with the College
- Be able to learn more about the College by attending an annual Open Day
- Be invited to attend fundraising and College events
- Have the opportunity to pass on your views and suggestions
How much does it cost to be a member?
It’s free! There is no annual fee or monthly subscription to pay; we just ask that you give as much support as you can.
Who is eligible for Friends membership?
Anybody who wishes to be a member is more than welcome! Our current membership includes current and former students, governors, friends and family, volunteers, customers, regular donators and members of the public who want to support our work.
How do you become a Friend of Portland?
Download an application form and send it back to the College address at the bottom of this page. Send it for the attention of Mark Dale and/ or Paul Watts who will process your form and confirm you as a Friend of Portland.
